I assume there is no one who has not watched the Back to the Future films, or who has watched them and did not like themFrom the perspective of the “history of global grocery retailing,” I compare Clarence Saunders, a very important figure who was born in the United States on August 9, 1881, to the iconic character “Marty McFly,” played by the beloved actor Michael J. Fox in the Back to the Future film series. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, grocery stores were far from their modern *appearance*; both their interiors and operating styles more closely resembled “large pharmacies.”
